As a former lawyer who litigated a lot of landlord-tenant cases, your sermon about landlords deserving their money like everybody else belies the reality. Judges in L-T courts are not trained in the law, and their understanding of L-T law is what they have learned from landlord lawyers. That teaching is often false, but the judges, in their insecurity, stick to it, often with horribly unfair results. I represented both sides, but in almost every instance, the landlord had broken promises or just failed to make repairs that were on him. But L-T court only deals with rent. So the tenant, to get any satisfaction, would have to bring her own separate action, which she can rarely afford. So the landlord gets away with his (I say) criminal behavior.
