I spent 8 years in the Nicherin Shoshu Academy. Your explanation is very good.
I went there because, traveling to Westwood to see a movie, I heard this incredible sound coming from a two-story building. I went in to find about 200 people chanting in unison. Probably the most powerful experience of (at least my spiritual) life, all of them chanting in unison. I started practicing that day, and didn't stop. After 8 years, I left because the politics within the organization were upsetting me, but the organization has nothing to do with the chant, and though it''s been 30 years, I still chant from time to time.
After all these years, I still get phone calls from people who I introduced to Buddhism, thanking me.
