That uncertainty has opened him to God. Contrast Mateo's statement with so many of the comments which too often proclaim a fearless certainty about

God, pretend that faith rids us of doubt, and rationalizes the world's pain.

Your purpose is what God has put in front of you at this moment - big or small - and no one has the right or ability to judge it.
