My wife lived her life co-dependent on her abusive parents. She had all the symptoms you describe. Most of my efforts to penetrate that wall were unsuccessful since she was so much about defending that original relationship. Through very hard work, my wife has broken through almost all of the dependency, but we almost lost our marriage and our children in the process.
