SHE’S LEAVING AND IT’S WORSE THAN DEATH

Even Soul Mates Sometimes Go Their Separate Ways

I am at a different stage of life than most of you. I am 73, dealing with multiple major health problems, and gradually retiring because I can’t do many of the things I used to do.

My wife Marlow is only 54. She is very much in her prime. Surrounded by friends, critical to her workplace, sought after by her children. She has built the life she deserves, which is also the life I wanted her to build before I passed.

I am a city boy, and Marlow’s a country girl. We moved to the mountains because that’s where she wanted to live once she became single. It wasn’t my preference to live in a red-neck village that no one’s heard of, but it makes her happy, and I love her that much.

I hate just about everything New Age, but we are living proof that “soul mates” are real.

When I was 20, I was hitchhiking through Europe when I got this pull to go to Frankfurt in Germany. Frankfurt is totally Americanized so not a place an American tourist would usually go. But I felt this strong pull and ended up at the huge American army base there. I tried all day to get on the base though I did not know why. But it was Vietnam era, and the MPs were huge and everywhere. I found out much later that Marlow was a 2-year-old on the base at the time.
