Strong words. But putting aside the flag-waving "patriots" who now support Russia and the millions living in some kind of addicted bubble, I think almost all Americans have thought about this dilemma. And that certainly includes me. I am a pacifist by nature (I don't even kill bugs unless they are threatening my home and family), but I also spent my adult life in a profession that was always about taking down bullies on behalf of people who could not do it themselves. I'm also a historian who is very mindful of the mistakes we made with Hitler. On balance, I think we should put on the big boy pants and throw Russia out of Ukraine (stopping there). God will decide the ultimate result. I suppose it is easier for an old man to say that than some others. I'm not the one who would get drafted to fight (though my sons might), but I guess I feel that the fights with Putin and his ilk are inevitable, so it might as well be now. The only thing I would add is that there are a lot of brown people in Yemen and black people in Rwanda who need and deserve the same kind of help. If it is our purpose to be the world's big brother, then we have to recognize that all people are our younger siblings, not just the white ones.
